ASME Standards

American Society of Mechanical Engineers, ASME

ASTM International (2001) formerly known as American Society for Testing and Materials founded in 1898. ASTM represents quality for materials to be used in products which are described in ASME. ASTM International is one of the largest voluntary standards developing organizations in the world. ASTM International is a not-for-profit organization that provides a forum for the development and publication of voluntary standards for materials, products, systems, and services. More than 12,000 standards are used globally and the more than 30,000 members belonging to one or more committees, representing consumers, users, producers and government from over 140 countries, covering a subject area such as steel, petroleum, medical devices, property management, consumer products, and many more.

ASTM International’s member develop technical documents grounding manufacturing, management, procurement, codes, and regulations. The manifestation of this standard means the material was subjected to a mechanical test determining its yield strength, tensile strength, Brinell hardness and elongation. ASTM articulate that international standardization can be more effective through the support of sector-driven standards and observance of basic principles of standards development. For a full publication of these standards yearly, there is the Annual Book of ASTM Standards for industries like geothermal energy, medicine, environment and electrical and cover items like plastics, adhesives, textiles and more.

ASME is one of the oldest standards-developing organizations in America. ASME is an American Organizational set up, to guide, monitor and work on betterment of mechanical engineering and relevant multi-disciplinary engineering through codes and standards. ASME standards represents the dimensions and tolerances with respect to each material class. ASME developed approximately 600 codes and standards covering many technical areas, such as fasteners, plumbing fixtures, elevators, pipelines, and power plant systems and components.

Many ASME standards are cited by government agencies as tools to meet their regulatory objectives. ASME’s standards are used in more than 100 countries and have been translated into numerous languages. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global. ASME has over 140,000 members in 158 countries worldwide.

Duplex Stainless Steel Can Be A Good Choice For Your Project ! http://www.hextubes.com/duplex-stainless-steel-can-be-a-good-choice-for-your-project/ Wed, 27 Jul 2016 09:30:10 +0000 http://localhost/duplex2205-local/?p=1

Duplex Stainless Steel

Duplex 2205 also known as Duplex Stainless Steel or 2205 Stainless Steel is a corroded metal with a combination of ferritic steel and austenitic steel. 2205 Duplex contains 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, 5 to 6% nickel used extensively in applications that require good corrosion resistance & strength. The lower nickel content of the Duplex grades means a better thermal conductivity as compared to the austenitic equivalent grade. These low nickel alternates offer far more stable pricing compared to the higher nickel austenitic alloys. Duplex Steel provides superior protection against corrosion than most grades of stainless steel in the majority of environments. The most widely used stainless steel is Duplex 2205. The use of duplex stainless steel has grown and is a popular choice for a number of reasons including its price stability and higher strength. Duplex stainless steels are low nickel bearing stainless steels that offer many mechanical and corrosion resistant benefits over more popular 300 series stainless steels. Welding the Duplex Stainless Steels seems easy if the only criteria is passing ASME code. Replacement of expensive Nickel with Nitrogen gives several advantages, including enhanced tensile properties and greater resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, and they are twice the strength of 300 Series of Stainless Steel. Their lighter weight also makes duplex stainless steels cheaper to transport and assemble. 2205 duplex stainless steel is a more common duplex stainless that offers corrosion resistance between 317/L and the 6% Mo alloys.

Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel Attributes

  • Two-Phase, austenitic and ferritic stainless steels.
  • Weldable with care in thick sections.
  • Mechanical Strength.
  • Restricted to 300 deg C maximum.
  • Resistance to pitting & crevice corrosion.
  • Resistance to stress corrosion cracking & corrosion fatigue.
  • Resistance to uniform corrosion.
  • Resistance to abrasion & erosion.
  • Resistance to Fatigue.
  • Wide range of corrosion resistance to match application.
  • High energy absorption.
  • Low thermal expansion.
  • Useful up to 600°F.
